This meme was called Bonsai Kittens. It started off with some pictures that some IT kid made from MIT. The pictures showed a kitten being crammed into a glass jar. The final image was then photoshopped to look like the kitten was bottled and had taken the shape of the jar. It was all a hoax of course. The idea actually came from the practice of growing watermelons in boxes so that they take the shape of a square when they are done. I actually thought the picture of this was cooler than the kittens in the jars, which are fake.
Naturally though the animal rights people started calling. A number of them I'm sure thought this was all real, and even if they didn't they were still pissed. The FBI eventually came in to investigate the Creator of the meme. It seems OL' Bill Clinton had passed a law that said any form or threat of animal cruelty would be a federal matter.
